Poultry & Rabbit
We raise our livestock on natural forage across the grazing spaces and forest on the farm and minimal locally sourced feed.
Our birds and rabbits are never given hormones or antibiotics and are harvested on-site with great care.
Members of our community are always welcome on harvest days to observe or volunteer and are welcome to visit the birds and rabbits any time. If you’re interesting to learn more about the practice, check our events page to see if we’re hosting a processing workshop soon.
Our Poultry
What’s Available?
We currently offer chicken only. All our birds are pasture-raised, with no antibiotics or hormones. Their food is supplemented with Poulin Grain, a local but not organic feed. For all birds, we can include feet, neck, and giblets on request.
Note: We schedule harvest days based on the number of orders we have received and/or the date a clutch hatches. We will notify you of your potential pick up date(s) once we have enough orders to proceed. Thank you for your patience.
*Don’t have the freezer space to order ahead or simply don’t want to pre-order for the year? We have a limited stock at the farm so you can come purchase as you go. We also now offer an add-on option to our CSA share boxes for meat and other proteins!
Butchered Option
Vermont State Law currently prohibits farms that practice on-farm slaughter to butcher any of those animals.
We often hold workshops as part of our animal harvests and would be happy to show you how to break down your birds (and other fun things!) at one of those events. You can also refer to this wonderful video available thanks to Rural Vermont. This video was produced to help consumers feel more empowered to take advantage of the benefits of farm fresh poultry.
Pricing
The basic cost for our chicken is $5.50/lb.
When ordering, we ask for non-refundable down payment of $10.00/bird. This down payment covers the minimum charge for a bird and goes toward your final payment.
If you need to us to store your poultry, we have an additional $5.00 freezer fee/bird stored but don’t guarantee availability of this service. The full cost of your bird(s) is due at pickup.
Payments
We are now authorized to accept SNAP/EBT!
We also accept cash, check, and Venmo (@Kendra-Dias-2) or PayPal (giantjourneyfarm@gmail.com).
We ask that you determine the amount you need to pay when ordering. But we’re happy to figure out the amount if you run into trouble. Just shoot us an email or call. We offer a sliding scale option as well as a limited number of solidarity shares. If you think you would benefit from a solidarity share please reach out to us.
We also take barter, trade, and work hours on farm toward payment. Please reach out if you’d like to work with us to find a payment option that works for your family.
