Our Sliding scale options
***We are participants in the NOFA-VT Farm Share Subsidy Program as well as authorized to accept SNAP/EBT! Please reach out to us about these options if they would be the best fit for you.***
What is our sliding scale?
Anyone on our sliding scale is encouraged to pay-what-you-can for all Giant Journey products.
Rather than suggest a price or discount percentage for our sliding scale, pay-what-you-can allows us to most genuinely honor our community’s needs. We want to be sure our food isn’t out of reach to anyone who wants it. We are simultaneously striving to achieve a living wage so we encourage folks who are able, to engage in practices of reciprocity. In addition to pay-what-you-can our sliding scale ensures:
there are NO minimum deposits due and deposit schedules are flexible
our pick-your-own is FREE and
workshops and events that have a ticket price are FREE.
who is it for?
Anyone in our community (defined as Newfane, South Newfane, Brookside, Williamsville, Brookline, Townshend) who is a member of a marginalized group or identity and would financially or emotionally benefit from our sliding scale.
Anyone residing in the West River Valley who receives either EBT, WIC, ReachUp, EES enrollment, Green Mountain Cares/Dr Dino, fuel assistance, Green Mountain Power bill assistance program, SEVCA weatherization program acceptance, etc. or if you are food or housing insecure.
*You do not need to make a formal application. You do not need to provide us proof of hardship.*
Alternate economies!
We deeply appreciate working in solidarity that includes mutuality. We are excited to work with you to arrange:
“work shares” or work hours toward payment. Our work shares are 1 hr/week for the duration of your share. For meat, eggs, or other goods: $15/hr toward your bill (pay rate is higher for expert skills/experience). Work hours on the farm are negotiable and will align with your skill set- light farming tasks, heavy-duty tasks, construction, cleaning, child-care, sharing your skill or talent at an event, or whatever you can think of!
trade and barter. Since most items and skills are non-fungible we’ll need to work out a case-by-case arrangement that either combines cash payment with trade/barter or replaces cash payment entirely. Things we’ve traded or bartered in exchange for meat, eggs, and veggies in the past: prenatal care and birth, firewood, childcare, honey and fruit, our website, lumber milling, skills workshops. Feel free to come with an offer prepared or just let us know you’d like to explore making one.
solidarity shares
Giant Journey Farm offers a limited number of FREE CSA shares which can include meat and/or eggs throughout the year. If you think you might benefit from a solidarity share, or know someone who might, please reach out to us by email or phone.
